Turkish National Anthem on its 100th Anniversary

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the acceptance of the National Anthem, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature will hold a program on March 11, and History Research Center on March 12, regarding “Mehmet Akif Ersoy and the Turkish National Anthem on its 100th Anniversary.” It will be broadcast live on the Zoom platform and on the YouTube channel of the Faculty of Letters.  Those who wish to attend the public program will be able to follow the program live on the YouTube link below.

The program on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 20:00, will be held online under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ali Şükrü Çoruk, the Head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Prof. Dr. Hayati Develi, Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Emeksiz and Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Samsakçı will attend as the speakers.

Prof. Dr. Ali Şükrü Çoruk said in his statement that the year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the acceptance by the National Assembly of the Turkish National Anthem written with the language, conscience and wisdom of the nation in the most painful and difficult days of the struggle for independence and the future of the Turkish nation under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

“In the program, the historical and current importance of the Turkish National Anthem and the personality of Mehmet Akif, who is the conscience of the nation, will be discoursed,” he said.


The program on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 20.00, will be held online under the direction of Prof. Dr. Cezmi Eraslan, the Head of the Department of Department of History of the Republic of Turkey. Prof. Dr. Cezmi Eraslan, Assoc. Dr. Fatih M. Sancaktar and Assoc. Dr. Abdurrahman Bozkurt will attend as the speakers.

Prof. Dr. Arzu Terzi, the Head of the History Research Center, said in her statement that the environment in which the poet Mehmet Akif who placed the national and divine values ​​and religious motifs in a balanced way on the stanzas of our national anthem grew up, the political picture that led to the writing of the National Anthem, and the moment of acceptance of the march in the Parliament will constitute the main theme of the speeches.
