International Symposium on the 100th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic

In cooperation with the Atatürk Research Center of the Atatürk Culture, Language and History Supreme Council and Istanbul University an International Symposium on the 100th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic will be held in Istanbul on November 21-22, 2023. 

1923 was a year in which many important developments took place after the victory of the War of Independence. In 1923, the Turkish Economic Congress where important decisions were taken in the field of economy was convened, the first term of the Turkish Grand National Assembly ended with the decision to hold new elections and the second term of the Turkish Grand National Assembly was formed, the Lausanne Peace Treaty was signed after a lasting peace was achieved following the war period, a new regime was adopted with the proclamation of the Republic, Ankara was chosen as the capital of the new state, the ancient capital Istanbul was liberated from enemy occupation and various events took place in both domestic and foreign policy. The year 1923 has many more developments, large and small, hidden within its folds. 

The symposium aims to reveal the establishment of the Republic of Turkey with new academic studies, to contribute to the cultural and political decision-making processes of the official authorities in Turkey in terms of quality with the academic information to be revealed about the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, to provide an opportunity to discuss the history of the Republic of Turkey in academic environments, and to develop relations with Turkish universities and institutions of countries and communities related to the subject of the symposium. 

ABSTRACTS MUST BE SUBMITTED UNTIL APRIL 30, 2023 

The symposium is open to the participation of academicians and researchers from Turkey and abroad. For this purpose, paper proposals of at least 300 words, including the purpose, method, sources to be used and possible findings, should be sent via e-mail address to akinakbiyik@istanbul.edu.tr together with the Application Form until April 30, 2023. 

Abstracts will be sent to the referees forming the Scientific Committee. After the abstracts are evaluated by the referees in terms of compliance with the Symposium topics, scientific research methods and originality of the study, the papers deemed appropriate will be announced. The symposium presentation language will be Turkish and English. 

The Symposium abstracts book will be published as an e-publication or in print. Travel and accommodation expenses of those who will attend the symposium will be covered by the Atatürk Research Center and Istanbul University.
