Call for Papers: War and Science



WAR and SCIENCE, Studies in Ottoman Science, Special issue (December 2018) The journal Osmanlı Bilimi Araştırmaları / Studies in Ottoman Science (EBSCOhost, Ulakbim) published by Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of History of Science, is projecting to publish a special issue to commemorate the centenary of the ending of the First World War. The special issue will both be published on line and as hard copy in December 2018.

The theme of the special issue is WAR AND SCIENCE, but topics under study will not be restricted to World War I. The scientific activities, engineering work, war technology, weapons (both traditional and modern), scientists on the theater of war and backstage; the mutual interaction between wars and scientific discoveries, relative technical inventions and innovations; medical and pharmaceutical practices and health services on the battlefield, hospitals at wartime, the role of armies and military personnel in the transmission of scientific and technical knowledge and related topics will be welcomed. The periods under study will cover the military conflicts experienced during the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish War of Independence, as well as the Second World War and the Cold War, which all had significant social and scientific effects on Turkey.

Authors are kindly invited to submit their proposal to the journal through DergiPark (http://dergipark.gov.tr/iuoba) on 15 September 2018 at the latest.
